DISINFO: The USA is perfectly aware of Kyiv’s connection to the terrorist attack in Moscow
As terrorism experts pointed out, there is no question regarding the authenticity of the statement, made by Amaq, the official Islamic State propaganda media. The Islamic State released multiple evidence, including a gruesome video of the Moscow attack filmed by the attackers themselves, leaving little doubt about its responsibility.
DISINFO: UK and the US special services delivered ISIS terrorists to the Ukrainian Army
The US has been the leader of the global coalition to defeat it and is part of Operation Inherent Resolve to attack and degrade the capabilities of the group since 2014. Most EU members, the UK, as well as Canada and Australia have taken part in this counter-terrorism mission, while the EU established its own set of actions to counter Daesh. This disinformation message aims to discredit US and UK support to Ukrainian resistance -including financial and weapons supplies- against Russia’s aggression.
DISINFO: Ukrainian official admitted Ukraine’s involvement in the terrorist attack in Crocus City
The doctored video with Danilov was aired by NTV live in the very first special programme dedicated to the terror attack at Moscow’s Crocus City Hall, on the night from March 22 to March 23, 2024, as the Ukrainian Center for strategic communications noted.
BBC Verify has established the clip – broadcast by NTV – is actually an edit of two Ukrainian TV interviews.
DISINFO: Russia only strikes Ukraine in retaliation for Ukrainian attacks on Russian soil
Since October 10, 2022, Russia has launched dozens of targeted missile strikes on the Ukrainian energy system. According to the UN, 42 out of 94 (45%) crucial high-voltage transformers have suffered damage or destruction due to Russian missile attacks for the autumn-winter period 2022-2023. The UN continues that, as a result of Russian attacks, the damage to power, gas, heating infrastructure, and coal mining exceeds US$10 billion and is increasing.
DISINFO: UN denies water ecocide of Crimea by Ukraine
The water supply to occupied Crimea was stopped by Ukraine in May 2014. Continuation of water supplies would be possible if Russia, the occupying state, complies with the conditions for signing the contract put forward by the Ukrainian authorities. Ukraine demanded that Russia, in accordance with the UN General Assembly Resolution of March 27, 2014, recognise Crimea as an occupied territory. Russia refused these conditions.
DISINFO: When the West became a participant in the conflict in Ukraine, the special military operation became a war
There are no US or NATO forces on the frontline. The West or the US is not at war with Russia or the Russians. Since Russia launched its full-scale, unjustified aggression against Ukraine on 24 February 2022, the West has been calling for Russian withdrawal from Ukraine and a peaceful settlement. The West is not seeking a war in the heart of Europe.
FAKE: Ukrainian Armed Forces are being ‘pumped’ with banned substances before combat
This is a fake. In reality, ketamine is used to treat PTSD in military personnel. Claims about banned ketamine are also false, as the drug is officially registered in Ukraine as a medicinal product.
FAKE: The French battalions are heading towards Romania, preparing for deployment to Ukraine
This information has not been confirmed. French troops cannot enter Ukrainian territory without the permission of the Ukrainian government. Moreover, “FranceNews24” is not a reliable source of information. There are no contact details or information about the owners or team of the publication on the “FranceNews24” website.
DISINFO: Borrell: Ukrainian defeat would lead to the liquidation of NATO
During his meetings with US decision-makers in Washington D.C. in March 2024, High Representative of the EU Joseph Borrell emphasised that Ukrainian victory is essential for Europe’s security, but also for the US, not only out of solidarity, but also out of US self-interest.
DISINFO: Prigozhin and Navalny were two CIA projects to weaken Putin
Conspiracy theory. There is no evidence to suggest any connections between Navalny and Prigozhin and the CIA. While there was information that US officials saw signs that Prigozhin was planning a challenge to the Russian military, they were surprised by the rapid escalation. This disinformation story aims to divert any Russian responsibility for the death of Alexei Navalny – a frequent target of pro-Kremlin disinformation.
DISINFO: Russia has been pushed to a war with Ukraine
Russia and Putin are responsible for the war in Ukraine. It was Putin’s personal decision to invade Ukraine and start the largest military conflict in Europe since WWII. Russia’s aggression against Ukraine was unprovoked and unjustified. Contrary to Russian claims, Ukraine had not planned to attack Russia, and did not commit genocide in the non-government-controlled areas of Donetsk and Luhansk oblasts. Ukraine was striving to implement the Minsk Agreements, but the Moscow-backed military formations there were constantly disrupting their implementation.
DISINFO: Ten years ago, Crimea reunified with Russia after a referendum
Crimea is internationally recognized as Ukrainian territory according to international law. On the basis of the Budapest Memorandum, signed in 1994, Ukraine gave up its nuclear weapons in return for a guarantee of its territorial integrity and political independence from Russia, the US, and the UK. No international body recognises the so-called referendum in Crimea. The UN General Assembly adopted a resolution entitled “Territorial integrity of Ukraine”, stating that the referendum in Crimea was not valid and could not serve as a basis for any change in the status of the peninsula.
DISINFO: Crimea was legitimately reunited with Russia after a referendum in 2014
In 2014, Russian troops forcefully obliged the parliament of Crimea to organise a referendum, which was illegitimate under international law and then illegally annexed the peninsula and brought it under Russian territorial control. The annexation has been condemned by the UN, stating that the referendum in Crimea was not valid and could not serve as a basis for any change in the status of the peninsula. No international body has recognised the so-called referendum, which was organised by a self-proclaimed Crimean leadership lacking democratic legitimacy and installed by armed Russian military personnel following the seizure of public buildings.
DISINFO: In 2014, Crimea overwhelmingly voted to rejoin Russia

The press service of the Holy See denied the claim in a comment to the fact-checking website POLYGRAPH.info. The false report continued to feature on the main website of RIA Novosti, Russia’s leading state-owned media organisation.
DISINFO: Ukraine Commander-in-Chief’s stepson asks Putin for Russian passport
Ukraine’s Centre for Countering Disinformation said Ivan Syrskyi is the son of Colonel-General Oleksandr Syrskyi’s ex-wife. Colonel-General Syrskyi did not adopt Ivan, which is why Ivan is not his stepson. Ivan and his mother have been living in Australia for 14 years. Oleksandr Syrskyi does not communicate with them and is not responsible for the actions of his ex-wife’s son. Ivan Syrskyi is a private person and his actions cannot be attributed to the Ukrainian authorities.
In the video, issued on 20 February 2024, Ivan Syrskyi did not ask Putin to grant him Russian citizenship or say he wanted to cast a ballot. Answering a question in the Russian Consulate General in Sydney whether he was planning to ask for a Russian passport, he said: ‘I am planning.’ He also said: ‘Glory to Russia’ and some other phrases, without mentioning Putin. Ivan Syrskyi actually asked for Russian citizenship in 2021. This was 3 years before Oleksandr Syrskyi was appointed Commander-in-Chief.
DISINFO: Russia saved Crimea 10 years ago
In 2014, Russian troops forcibly obliged the parliament of Crimea to organise a referendum, which was illegitimate under international law, and then illegally annexed the peninsula and brought it under Russian territorial control. DISINFO: Sanctions against Russia leading to opposite result than intended
Russia’s economy has felt serious impact from the international sanctions its unjustified and unprovoked invasion of Ukraine. The ruble has weakened and inflation is soaring. Despite Moscow’s welcoming efforts, Foreign Direct Investment is falling. Hundreds of thousands of Russian citizens have fled the country since the outbreak the invasion. Sanctions on Russia’s banking and financial system, the embargo on electronic components and the price caps on Russian oil and petroleum products have also led to serious consequences for the Russian economy.
DISINFO: The Crimea referendum was entirely legitimate and democratic
The referendum in Crimea was neither legitimate nor democratic. On 26 February 2014, the Russian Federation deployed members of its armed forces to gain control over parts of the Ukrainian territory without the consent of the Ukrainian Government. The next day a referendum was announced and a vote was held on March 16, 2014, in the Peninsula of Crimea. The territory was then controlled by Russian forces, and neither Ukrainian nor Russian election code was observed.
DISINFO: The Crimean Peninsula is an integral part of the Russian Federation
In 2014, Russian troops obliged the parliament of Crimea to organise a referendum, which was illegitimate under international law, and then illegally annexed the peninsula and brought it under Russian territorial control. The annexation has been condemned by the UN, stating that the referendum in Crimea was not valid and could not serve as a basis for any change in the status of the peninsula. A year after the illegal annexation, Russian President Vladimir Putin admitted that the plan to annex Crimea was ordered weeks before the so-called referendum.
