Health Agencies Deny US-Funded Biolabs | Africa Check

Four days after the Tass articles, on 31 May, Nigeria Centre for Disease Control director-general Ifedayo Adetifa released a statement debunking Russia's claims.

"Nigeria has no laboratories where monkeypox virus is generated," he says in the statement, adding that the claims are "not backed by any evidence". On 30 May the US consulate in Nigeria also issued a statement, dismissing Russia's claims as "pure fabrication". And in a press briefing on 2 June, the WHO said the organisation hadn't received any request from Russia to investigate "US biolabs" in Nigeria.

No, Russia-Ukraine war hasn’t led to UK recession, fuel deals with Nigeria – Africa Check

There have been reports of Johnson's attempts to make energy deals with countries in the Middle East, following the energy crisis caused by the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

But we could find no evidence the prime minister had made similar overtures to Nigeria.

Britain was not in recession as of March 2022. While Johnson may have been courting Middle Eastern oil-producing countries, we could not tie this to Nigeria or conditions in southeast Nigeria.

Videos with false subtitles do not show Russian leader threatening war with Nigeria over Ukraine

Videos shared on Facebook claim to show Russian President Vladimir Putin warning Nigeria to stay out of the war in Ukraine or risk entering into its own conflict. But this is false: AFP Fact Check found that the clips use false subtitle translations. One video is from 2020 and shows Putin addressing Russians about the novel coronavirus. In another, he does address Russia's ongoing attack on Ukraine but makes no mention of Nigeria.
