An artificial intelligence (AI) generated video claiming to show an Indian youth from Haryana fighting for the Russian Army and desperately pleading for help from the Indian government, is circulating online as a real video.
Multiple social media users recently shared the video claiming it showed a youth from Haryana trapped in the Russia-Ukraine war and pleading for rescue. However, the PTI Fact Check Desk found that the video is AI-generated and was falsely shared as real, despite genuine reports of Indian citizens being lured into the Russia-Ukraine conflict.
Multiple social media users shared a photo showing a heavily damaged and likely destroyed military vehicle, specifically a radar or air defence system. The user claimed that Pakistan destroyed India's S-400 defence system. However, the Desk found that the photo shows a Russian S-400 defence system destroyed by Ukraine in 2024. The image was shared with a false claim on social media.
Multiple social media users recently shared an image claiming it depicted a key military installation in Punjab's Adampur that suffered damage due to Pakistan's airstrikes in the region. In its investigation, the Desk found that the viral image reportedly depicted Russian S-400 missile launch units destroyed by a Ukrainian airstrike in occupied Crimea in April 2024. An old and unrelated image was falsely shared on social media as recent with a false claim.
The footage does not depict Pakistani forces shooting down an Indian drone. Rather, it shows a Russian drone falling outside Kharkiv, Ukraine.
A viral tweet described the video as "war propaganda in the style of Bollywood dance videos."
Several images have been shared repeatedly in social media posts that claim they show a minaret in India's capital lit up with the colours of the Russian flag to show "support" for Moscow's invasion of Ukraine. The posts circulated online after a similar tweet was shared by the state-run Chinese tabloid Global Times. The claim is misleading: the Indian government said the building in New Delhi was illuminated as part of a week-long event to promote affordable medicines. Local media reports also said the minaret was illuminated for the pharmaceutical event, not Russia's invasion of Ukraine.
